Sky on fire

It's always best to have some clouds around, when you watch a sunset ;-)

Did you know, that Oslo loses over 2,5 hours of daylight in September? check here o.O

Hiking in Oslo

Here are some pictures of my hiking trip last weekend with some fellow students.

At first we went by bike to Ullevålseter north of Oslo. From there on we hiked to the north of Bjørnsjøen near Kikutstua, where we bivouacked.

The hardest part of making microwave popcorn over the fire is to prevent the bag from catching fire ;-)

There is no such thing as good directions in a climbing guide ;-)

At first I planed to stay at home this morning, preparing the exercises and lectures for tomorrow ... then I realized the fine weather and then I was reminded of climbing ... so I decided to check out one climbing areas near where I live .. it appeared like 5km and 180m in altitude, a short ride by bike ... well, somehow I missed the track to the rocks and ended up on top of Grefsenkollen after another 3km and 100m in altitude ;-)

But it was worth it. I think I should go back some time. Maybe during sunset :-)

I went down the same route and missed the rocks again ... maybe there are none ...

Oslo's geographic center

What do you expect to find, when you go into the forest biking? I suppose you do not expect to find the geographic center of a country's capital ;-) well, at least I did not.

Since the weather was fine and my courses did not start until today I went biking yesterday. To explore some part of the huge forests around Oslo: the areas for the friluftsliv of the people living in Oslo. At one lake about 2 kilometers away from the northern outskirts of Oslo, I found the a sign denoting the geographic center of Oslo.

One of the best things is, in winter there will be a lot of cross-country skiing trails :-D You can see it at the signs: red ones are for walking and blue ones are skiing trails.

Hello again and see you in two years ;-)

Well, it has bin a long time since my last post ... sorry for that :-D

... but I would like to try a restart. Especially since I am living in Oslo/Norway since August 1. Or more exactly since last Wednesday, as I went climbing beforehand in the south of Norway (Oslo/Drammen/Kristiansand) with Julia and Christian. They did a great job, helping me to move my stuff to the student residence. My home for the next two years during the master studies.

When I told people that I will live in Norway the next two years the first things they mentioned were the darkness in winter, the mosquitoes and that it will be expensive ... to be fair, that might be true, ... but none of them thought of the huge amount of rock climbing areas :-D all perfectly bolted or excellent cracks for clean climbing :-D

Well here are some pictures from our trip and some random notes ;-):

Another check on my bucket list: sitting on Swedish chairs (Schwedenstühlen) in Sweden :-D

The rock was still a bit wet when we arrived at the Dog Wall of Holskogen, but we had to try it since we came all the way from Drammen to flee the rain ;-)

The last days we stayed at Hellevikka near Kristians. The same place were we stayed two years before, when we were in Norway with our youth group of the German Alpine Club (DAV).

For the ones of you who want to know were I live, well I have 12m² in the Sogn Studentby in Oslo sharing bath and kitchen with 3 other students. One from Poland, one from Norway and the fourth remains unknown yet ;-)
